All of the candidates have been upset about the non-competitive land deal with the La Caille organization. Certainly, it was a complex deal and it is currently a secret deal (the exact nature of it will not be revealed until it is completed). It should not have been allowed to happen the way it did.
But the most surprising thing to me is this: that city council members who were involved in approving this transaction say that they did not know many important facts about it. Elsewhere, I have read that aldermen find it difficult to get information from the bureaucracy at City Hall.
This gives the appearance of bureaucrats doing "their own thing" behind closed doors, and only feeding the information that THEY want fed to our elected representatives.
It is this lack of disclosure that bothers me, and I would like to see changes that make it essential for information to be provided readily to council members.
